Community Development Service (CDS), as one of the
cardinal points of the National Youth Service Scheme, has become very important
in our National life, because it has allowed several like-minded Youths to
contribute immensely to their country in the area of community development.
CDS is one of the four cardinal programmes of NYSC in which
corps members contribute positively to the development of their host
communities throughout the period of National Service. It is worthwhile
mentioning that since its inception in 1973, the National Youth Service Corps
has been making great contributions in the social, political and economic
transformation of the nation. In recent times, the scheme has been in the
vanguard of the nation’s drive to correct the imbalance in our rural-urban
development through the various community development programmes executed by
corps members. These programmes have revolutionized our communities in the
areas of education, health care delivery, agriculture, communication, infrastructure,
technology, economic empowerment, poverty eradication, social service and above
all national consciousness and socio-cultural regeneration.
It is against this backdrop that the Charity and
Gender CDS Group, Kano State Chapter, which is an arm of the National Youth
Service Corps, has taken it upon itself and working tirelessly to improve live(s)
through charity and gender equality and empowerment sensitization, with voluntary
services to humanity. The Corp members in this noble CDS group are so motivated
by this and have accepted to carry out our mandate with a committed and sincere
heart.
The Charity and Gender CDS group is made up of two
(2) Batch A 2015 and Two Hundred & Forty-One (241) Batch B 2015 corps
members serving in Kano Metropolis. We meet every first, second (i.e. Planning
Committee) and last Thursdays of each month. And so far, we have enjoyed smooth
sail in our meetings and our envisioned activities which would start its effect
come next month (March, 2016) through the cooperative attitude of our members, schedule
officer and other related parties. We believe in this unique CDS group that “our
service to Nigeria is incomplete without our service to humanity”.
