VISITATION TO TORREY HOME FOR REHABILITATION (THE HANDICAPPED/MENTALLY RETARDED) AUG 4TH, 2016

The NYSC Charity and Gender CDS group (Kano State Chapter), on Thursday, AUG 4TH, 2016, visited the TORREY HOME FOR REHABILITATION , Kano State.
They are lost
and found, and they are about 23 inmates, as they are usually called. The inmates are categorized based on their problems. Some of the children (inmates) are mentally retarded, some are epileptic, some are handicapped, among others.

It was established in 1968 by an American social worker, Elizabeth Torrey.
My Hassan Ahmad, one of the officials and also the representative of the homes, said that

Kano state took over in 1979 . the home is under the ministry of women affairs and social developments. Mist of the children are don’t have parent.
For training purposes, the children are divided into two; the durable ones (that can learn some academic skills) and the trainable ones are those that can be giving some training like sweeping, toileting by themselves.

The purpose of establishing this home is to rehabilitate the mentally retarded and the physically disabled children in Kano. I am very happy about what the group of NYSC has done.
