The NYSC Charity and Gender CDS
group, Kano Chapter, paid a visitation to an orphanage home (GREEN PASTURE HOME AND INITIATIVE, No. 9A,
GA Burma Road, Sabongari, Kano State, Nigeria) on Thursday, March the 17th,
2016.
The visitation was part of our act and service to humanity.
Our visitation to Green Pasture Home and Initiative was
received with
warm welcome by the Program Manager, in person of Mr. Ayo Adeniyi,
who represented the founder because of her absence, which was due to her
important visitation to another branch of the Green Pasture Home and
Initiatives in Akure Town of Ondo State, Nigeria.
Mr. Ayo Adeniyi appreciated our visit and expressed his
surprise at the mass number visiting Youth Corp Members. He gave the statistics
of the children to be over 40, some of which are orphanages, motherless, etc.
He said the orphanage is not just an orphanage but a home and a school for
these special children.
The orphanage have a primary school where the children
are trained and afterward can further their education in other to become
someone great in life, and presently they already have a student in the College
of Agriculture. With excitement and certainty, Mr Adeniyi expressed his hope to
have Youth Corp Members in the nearest future.
The schedule officer of the CDS group, in person of Mr
Jonathan Gaku, introduced the group as a charity and gender CDS group under the
umbrella of NYSC. The NYSC Charity Service Group was created in the year 2001.
Then it came in handy as a buffer to the Federal Government Universal Basic
Education (UBE) programme and an adjunct to the then First lady’s felt-need
“Child Care Trust”, which aims primarily at creating a future for the less
privileged children by way of facilitating their attainment of
primary/secondary education. It was formerly launched in kano State on 15th
February, 2001, at the Indoor Sports Hall of Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano.
Mr. Gaku expressed his surprise at the coincide nature of
the evolution of the Green Pasture home and the evolution of this CDS group;
the former was founded March the 15th of 2001 and the Later,
February the 15th of 2001. He explained our goal as reaching out to
the less privileged ones, by giving them hope and contributing to the reduction
of social miscreant in the society.
We met with the children and the youngest baby of the house (a
neonate), played and snapped pictures with them.
The NYSC Charity and Gender
Community Development Service Group is an arm of the National Youth Service
Corps, Kano State Chapter, which is dedicated to humanitarian services of
creating a future for the less privileged Children, providing help to the
mentally retarded, physically challenged and other vulnerable groups in the
society. We also seek to promote gender equilibrium through the promotion of
equal responsibilities, rights, opportunities for both women and men, girls and
boys; correct human rights abuses through the use of facilities provided by
various care-givers in some existing rehabilitation homes.
